Tot School: Family
(Luigi 3 years, Princess Peach 2 years)
To be honest, I really didn’t keep great track of what we did this week. It was busy to say the least. We did manage to start our new theme: Family!
Let’s take a look at what the Tots got into this week!
Monday:
Luigi played with ABC flat fish and matched the uppercase letters to the lower case…lasted about five minutes!

The favorite activity of the week was playing with automoblox:

Mario joined in and helped the tots sort (and then fill and spill) their counting cats into colored cups:

The aftermath of tonging puff balls into an egg carton…the tongs were broken and are no more! Apparently Luigi wanted to see what would happen if he pulled the tongs away from each other instead of squeezing them together. They did try the tweezers a bit too but those are harder to handle.

The marble run continues to be a favorite:

And after realizing that they were being WAY too quiet at one point in our day…I found them doing this!

So we went upstairs and worked with playdough. They were really working hard and I could see that their hand strength had improved a bit because they were both able to do these mostly on their own!

Luigi was especially proud of the stars he was making!

We didn’t do much with Tot School on Tuesday because Mario and I were out at the zoo for quite a bit, but Mario and Luigi worked very well together to put this puzzle together later on that day.

On Wednesday, I was gone most of the day and so not much Tot school was done then either. But the tots did have a great time playing together with their train set.

(Please don’t look at our messy play room!)
Thursday, the Tots were big helpers in putting together the guinea pig cage:

They both had a good time working with real tools!

Friday:
Luigi was fascinated by the guinea pigs and tried to get them to nibble on his fingers:

He also had some fun with the box that the cage came in:

While Mario was stringing cheerios on pipe cleaners, the tots enjoyed playing with the pipe cleaners and trying to fit them into the holes in this Parmesan container.

After introducing the new theme, singing our bible verse song (Colossians 3:20) and looking at a family photo album, the tots enjoyed putting together mini puzzles of family pictures I printed out:

They enjoyed finding out who was in each picture and seeing themselves as well! Then we talked about things each person liked or did for work.
After singing ‘He’s got the whole world in his hands’ (adding in all the members of our family) we worked on making mommies with colored shapes of construction paper (concentrating on the hearts and the color green).

I did help them place the shapes, but they enjoyed picking the pieces they wanted and gluing them down. Luigi was especially excited to see how the shapes made a picture. And they both loved putting the hearts on the mommies.

The princess especially loved the circles:

After this, we pulled out the markers and made happy faces on the mommies and wrote their names on their papers. The princess especially loves to see her name written down.
The tots both loved cutting pieces of scrap paper:

Luigi still needs help with his grip but he is really trying hard!

The princess loved this activity the best; she sat and snipped paper for over half an hour!

While the princess continued to cut paper, I introduced the concept of the number three to Luigi by role playing the Rub-a-dub-dub rhyme in a round laundry basket (I put Luigi in the basket, not ME! ha!); using my fingers to count as we said each character…After a while, he wanted to hide in the basket with me:

We also talked about the letter Tt and Luigi colored this rhyme sheet (the princess was STILL happily cutting paper):

Luigi and I traced the T and he tried to make some Ts on his own as well. Hopefully next week will include a Tt is for tree craft! (Family Tree!)
Well, that was our busy, busy week! Click the link at the top to see what others did!

Love the pipe cleaner and parm idea. I also noticed that it looks like you have a container w/scap paper in it. I LOVE that idea!!! My kids just seem to stuff “extra” cut-up paper in the cabinet. I think it would be great to have a box of some sort for all the scraps that can be used later. Thanks for the idea!!!
