Tot School: Birthday Boy!

(Luigi is 3, the Princess is 23 months)

This week was Luigi’s birthday so we didn’t get a whole lot of “school” related activities in, but we sure did have a lot of fun! Let’s take a look!

On Monday, The Princess worked on her color and shape book that we found in the A Beka for 2’s workbooks. She colored a green frog to add to her book. For the rest of that day, I packed up the kidlets to go visit a friend who just had a baby! It was great to have all the kids play together while I was able to have adult time with my friend.

On Tuesday, we had a full day of Tot School activities. First, Luigi and I talked about top and bottom by putting toys on the top and bottom sides of a basket bin (turned on it’s side so it looks like shelves) He grasped the concept quickly and for the rest of the day kept getting on top and on the bottom “shelf” and saying top and bottom.

Next, we read his “God made me” booklet that we put together last week. He was so excited to see it again and to look at all the pictures we had made.

We sorted these stars by size and color and talked some more about big and small. Found at Hubbard’s Cupboard.

Then Princess and Luigi said this simple name rhyme with me:

My name is XXX

and I am 2

I am a boy/girl

and I love YOU!

Very simple, but they loved repeating it! Then I talked to the Princess about how she will be 2 very soon and how Luigi will be 3 this week. Then we counted to two and three together.

Next, we did this spray bottle activity (forgot where I originally saw it, but the idea has been floating around for a while) where they color on a paper towel with markers and then use a spray bottle to smear it around like watercolors…

As predicted, the Princess liked the coloring the best, and Luigi liked the spraying the best! The spraying was very easy for Luigi but was a challenge for the Princess so I’m glad at least one person got something out of it! Squeezing the bottle is supposed to strengthen the muscles in their hands for writing. But Luigi just liked to see the paper towels get wet!

The finished pictures…you can tell which one belongs to the Princess!

The princess then colored a picture on the number four (four little Indians in a tepee) and she learned how to say the word tepee.

Thursday was a clean up day, and all the kids cooperated in putting the toys in the correct bins. I labeled them so that at least Mario can read where things go and he and I helped the tots sort everything out.

We also worked a little bit on a big picture we’re going to send to the grandparents as a surprise!

And finally, Luigi colored one last picture on the letter D and we colored a picture on the number one. This will go in a little book we’ll put together once we get to 10!

Friday we went on our trip to the zoo!

On Saturday, we had Luigi’s birthday! He received a lot of neat toys and some learning toys I’ve been wanting to get for a while!

He received a Who Lives Where? game:

He also received Leap Frog’s Fridge Phonics:

He really enjoys this Imaginarium Marble Run set:
