Tools For Tots

Well it seems that I’m very much a follower of blog trends these days! :)

1+1+1=1 has started a Tools for Tots section on her blog where moms of tots can share what learning toys they’ve made for their little ones. I’ve not come up with much myself, but have made a couple of the things the other moms have shared.

First, I made these color clothespins and discs for Luigi to practice his colors. Although, right now he’s just interested in learning how to open them!

I made the discs a little differently so that I can work on one or two colors at a time with him.

One thing I did make this week was this Feed the Pig game I found in Positively Pigs by Karen Shackleford:

I took an old ice cream bucket and cut a mouth shape out of the lid and then covered the whole thing in pink piggy paper. Then I drew a face and taped on the ears (although those sure have taken a beating this week, lemme tell ya!). Then we used Sissy’s fake kitchen food to feed the piggy all sorts of things. The tots really enjoyed stuffing this guy full and then taking the lid off and dumping it all out again!

Another thing I found and made this week were these cute little animal cards:

I found them HERE and printed them off, glued them on cardstock and then covered them in clear tape (ran out of contact paper) to make them waterproof. Of course, you could always print them out on cardstock and then laminate them. SO much easier! The tots loved looking at the animals and we practiced making matches. Sissy just liked putting them in and out of the little plastic baggy. I also have some car cards to make for Luigi and some space ones for Mario so we can practice using his visual memory.

The site is really neat because you can choose from a variety of themes and then change the pictures until you get ones you like. Be patient though, sometimes they don’t always show up so you have to play around with them a little bit.

So those are the tools we made this week! To see more, check out the link above!

That piggy is just too cute! I remember making animal cards for my daughter and then making the tracks to match them. She loved them! Looks like y’all had lots of fun.
